Our great friend Peter Gray, described as “a one man Cirque du Soleil”, is appearing in an exclusive season at the Circus Oz ‘Melba’ Speigeltent in Collingwood. The Classics! is a celebration of the living legends of Australian Circus.
Peter says “I’m only performing a snippet of my repertoire and it is not on the slackwire, however I’m very honoured to be invited to perform with many of my respected artists and friends of the same era as I.
‘The Classic’ show is all about performers 50years and up who still manage to ‘tread the boards/smell the sawdust’ after all these years! Thankfully I’m still able to do what I love at my age of 64!”
9 December – 12 December
Back by popular demand, Circus veterans Debra Iris Batton and Sue Broadway tread the boards with fellow quinquagenarians in The Classics! Living legends of Australian circus where they’ll re-invigorate old tricks with new attitudes.
Presenting an evening of joyful celebration where artists with a wealth of experience will bring their acts to the stage, anything can happen and probably will. The mix of acrobatic skill and comedy prove that the golden years can be just the beginning.
“Artistically it makes sense, doesn’t it? Older performers embrace ideas without needing approval. I would not go so far as to say that it is without ego because that might imply half dead.”
Funny, playful, and like good wine, The Classics proves that vintage is better. Together with their special guests, Batton & Broadway will charm you with their wit, fearless presence, circus classics, and new acts of age rejoicing brilliance!
“All ‘senior moments’ should involve a trapeze, a brick bikini and a pie in the face. The Classics had fun, strength, beauty and unexpected pleasures. Laugh your head off and come back for more.” Kaz Cooke.
